Two security personnel were injured in a grenade blast and security forces recovered a Chinese hand grenade and an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in two separate incidents in Assam on Tuesday, officials said.
Two security personnel were injured in a powerful grenade explosion in Assam’s Jorhat district in the wee hours of Tuesday.
The explosion took place in the Kenduguri area of the district, around 4:30 am on Tuesday.
“A suspected militant hurled the grenade to an Assam police checking post,” a top police official said.
Reports say when four security personnel gave instruction to a suspected militant to stop in at the checking post, the militant hurled the grenade hitting the security personnel and managed to flee from the area taking advantage of the darkness.
In the explosion two security personnel named Keshab Gogoi and Bolin Sonowal were injured and rushed to Jorhat Medical College hospital.
Security forces recovered a Chinese hand grenade, one magazine of AK-47 rifle and 28 rounds live ammunition near the blast site.
In separate incident, a powerful IED was recovered in front of the main gate of Nunmati Oil Refinery in Guwahati on Tuesday.
“The IED was hidden in a bag, which was found in front of the main gate of the refinery,” Guwati city SP Ranjan Bhuyan said.
Later, an army bomb squad defused the IED.
On February 24, security forces recovered an IED near the railway track at Makum in Tinsukia district.
