Amid unabated poaching of one horn rhinoceros in Kagironga national park located in the trans-border of Nagaon, Golaghat and Karbi Anglong district of Assam, Bokajan police of Karbi Anglong district arrested one suspected poacher along with a rhino horn weighing 650 grams yesterday at the Bokajan daily market.
Police identified the arrested person as Nabir Husain, a resident of Kohari Ghat village, in the Morigaon district. Police informed reporters that Nabir Husain was waiting near the fish market, stashing the rhino horn in the pocket of the jacket he was wearing. Based on the intelligence received about the rhino horn, police cordoned off the area and sealed all escape routes and arrested Nabir Husain.
After being caught red-handed with the rhino horn, Nabir Husain produced a different story to police. The suspect narrated before police that he came to Bokajan to visit his ailing father who stays near the supermarket in Dimapur, Nagaland. But on his way to Dimapur when he stopped in Bokajan for a while, some unknown person gave him a small bag to keep with him for some time and asked him to hang around until he came back; but the person didn’t come back to collect his belonging.
Bokajan police refused to accept his story and formally arrested him. Police are now interrogating Husain for more information.
