Assam Terror Sparks Massive Demonstrations in Karbi Anglong

Fallout Of NDFB(S) Butchery In Karbi Anglong

Following the carnage against Advasi community people by NDFB militants, a massive demonstration has taken place in Karbi Anglong district since yesterday.

The sixth scheduled tribe is considered one of the politically sensitive zones of Assam because of the presence of a sizable population of both Bodo and Adivasi community is sweltering since the commencement of human slaughter.

Yesterday amid state wide strikes imposed by Adavasi organisations, thousands of tea tribe origin people thronged the main streets of Howraghat town in east Karbi Anglong brandishing archaic bows and arrows and screaming slogans against Chief Minister of Assam, Tarun Gogoi and Assam police head Khogen Sharma.

The frantic mob later burned the effigy of the Chief Minister and the Assam Police chief alleging they hatched a communal conspiracy against the whole community with the ulterior motive of cleansing the entire community by indulging terrorist outfits. The AASA and ATSA leaders also issued a stern warning of resorting to armed resistance if the state machinery fails to protect their life and property.

In some sporadic incidents of violence, strike supporters torched a truck near Bogamati and Munda village under Borpathar police station in Bokajan subdivision but due to the remoteness of the locality, police had not visited the place of occurrence by the time of filing of this report. According to a local source, the truck belonging to one Sibaji Dey and was registered in Nagaland of Bokajan. As it went to collect sand, miscreants attacked the vehicle. In a separate incident miscreants destroyed one auto rickshaw in Lahorijan market near Assam Nagaland border, the place of incident comes under Khokati locality.

Thousands of Adavasi residents of Hati Dondi, Rajapathar locality under Bokulia police station around 65 kilometres from Diphu started a protest march. The AASA and ATSA led protesters by covering a distance of about 3 kilometres, and submitted a memorandum to the Governor of Assam demanding immediate dissolution of the Tarun Gogoi-led Assam ministry for letting down the Adavasi community.

In the memorandum, the Adavasi organizations apart from demanding dissolution of the ministry, also insisted on total protection for the Adavasi people and adequate compensation for the deceased.

In a significant development, a number of Karbi Anglong Bodo, social and political organizations have denounced the ruthless killing of Adavasi people by NDFB(S) and thereby obliterating the cultural fabric of Assam. The organizations have called for an immediate halt to the massacre.

There have been no further reports of violent incidents in any part of the district up to the time of filing this report.
