Arrest Warrants Out For Two Assam Congress MLAs

Two Assam Congress Members of the Legislative Assembly, one male and one female, are in trouble with the courts, each for a different reason.

On Thursday, Assam police launched a search operation for each Congress MLA. One was a former minister.

A search operation was conducted at the official Guwahati residence of former minister and present Congress MLA Siddique Ahmed, after a local court in Karimganj issued a non bailable warrant against him. Mr Ahmed was not found at his residence, or in several other places the police visited, and police left empty-handed.

“After the issuance of the non bailable warrant, we arrived in Guwahati this morning and launched a search operation in various locations including MLA hostel but did not find him,” RP Singh, officer-in-charge of Patharkandi police station said.

Mr. Ahmed was involved in an assault case in 2011, and at that time, the local court in Karimganj issued a roaming warrant against him.

On Wednesday this week, Gauhati High Court, in Guwahati, refused to accept the interim bail petition of the female Congress MLA, Dr Rumi Nath. She was allegedly involved with Anil Chauhan, the most wanted auto theft kingpin, who was arrested recently.

Police launched a search operation to locate Dr Nath, but failed to trace her.

Police had earlier arrested Dr Nath’s estranged husband, Jacky Zakir and her Personal Security Oficer, D Borpatragohain.
