What Makes a Country Successful in Economy and Politics?

Singapore

Much has recently been written and said about Singapore, an island in south east Asia which has become one of the world’s most advanced nations technologically and economically. Some of the main reasons for that are its advantage of being global transport and finance hub, and the second busiest container port. However, this country seems to have mainly benefited from its diversity and social cohesion.

Singapore’s founding father, Mr.Lee Kuan Yew, was the cornerstone, transforming the country into a cosmopolitan nation. That led it to be the world economic centre it is today. This country has no natural resources and struggled with mass unemployment and housing shortages due to lack of land not very long ago. Singapore became an economic success and power because of its geographical location, good governance and international trade. Then it evolved through rapid growth time after time

Main Reasons for Economic Success

Solidarity is one thing and education is another. in 2016, BBC global education program reported that Singapore had the highest achieving primary and secondary schools in international tests. Not only that but the higher education institutions such as national university of Singapore topped the ranks in the region, in 2018 Asian rankings.

The education sector recognized education as being one of the significant areas for development and making the society ethically disciplined and well trained. Nelson Mandela was obviously correct as he once said that education is the most powerful weapon which can be used to change the world.

Openness to Foreigners

Singapore understood that their future survival and growth depends on how well they deal with the needs by the world to make use of their country as a market. They opened it for foreign professionals, capital and technology and by facilitated trade over their borders.

The multicultural Singaporean communities have developed their legacy in international business and trade.

Rules and Regulations

This small Island has strict rules and regulations including the state comes before one’s own interests. In normal social life for example, parents are advised to use caning to discipline children and that will build bonds and improve understanding between child and parents. Some other prohibitions include no chewing gum and pedestrians only use crosswalks, no jay walking is allowed.
