Female Suicide Bombers Launch Deadly Attacks in Nigeria; 9 Killed

More Suicide Attacks In Nigeria

Female suicide bombers suspected to be with Boko Haram launched deadly attacks in the northeastern Nigerian city of Maiduguri, killing nine people and wounding more than a dozen.

Reports say two suicide bombers riding in motorised rickshaws detonated their explosives 10 minutes apart.

In two separate attacks, the suicide bombers targeted a refugee camp and a fuel depot. Both attacks were carried out in the early morning in the northeastern city of Maiduguri.

The first attack hit Bakassi Internally Displaced Persons camp, CNN reported. The attacker ran into a crowd at the entrance of the Bakassi IDP camp, and detonated the bomb, killing five people.

Almost a mile away from the first blast, another blast struck Nigerian National Petroleum Corp.’s Mega Filling Station, killing three occupants of a motorized rickshaw at the entrance to a fuel depot owned by the National Oil Company.

Reports say the attacker followed a fuel tanker in a rickshaw tricycle taxi before detonating the vehicle.

Boko Haram Strikes Again!

Terrorist attacks are not something new in Nigeria. Again, the terror group Boko Haram is suspected to be behind the blasts. The militant group is notorious for their violent and extremist activities in Nigeria’s northern states.

One of its recent record of brutalities is the bomb blast on October 12 that killed eight refugees in a taxi-van just outside of the city.

The extremist group has killed at least 20,000 people as it tries to create an Islamic state. Aside from that, some 2.6 million people have also been displaced from their homes.

The most recent Global Terrorism Index cited Boko Haram as the world’s deadliest terrorist group in 2014 for its killings and extremist activities in Nigeria, Niger, Chad and Cameroon.

In March 2015, Boko Haram pledged allegiance to ISIS, the extremist terror group that has launched violent attacks across the globe.
