FBI Warrant to Search Emails on Anthony Wiener’s Computer in Hillary Scandal

The FBI obtained a warrant on Sunday to search new emails for evidence relevant to the Clinton email investigation. It is the latest development in a stunning weekend of events that have brought back into national view the ongoing private email server Hillary Clinton used as secretary of state under President Barack Obama.

What has become a Greek tragedy for the Clinton presidential bid now nine days from Election Day, is centered on private emails between Clinton’s top lieutenant Huma Abedin and Hillary.

Abedin, the estranged wife of disgraced former New York congressman Anthony Weiner, involves a separate FBI criminal investigation into Wiener’s sexting case with a North Carolina minor female who reported Wiener to authorities.

The total number of emails recovered in that investigation is close to 650,000. Reportedly that reflects many emails that are not in any way relevant to the Clinton investigation. Officials familiar with the case said the messages include a significant amount of correspondence associated with Hillary Clinton and her top aide Huma Abedin.

It is speculated that Abedin used Wiener’s personal email account to privately communicate with Clinton to avoid anything becoming public knowledge or construed as government business. It could contain emails that directly connect Clinton with complicity in the criminal investigation the Obama-appointed FBI Director stated in July was not worthy of recommending an indictment to the Department of Justice and Obama-appointed Attorney General Loretta Lynch.

Although the email warrant does not constitute guilt, it is a precedent for the FBI to become involved in a presidential campaign. Clinton operatives and the candidate herself are demanding full disclosure of why the FBI sent a letter to congressional leaders on both sides of the aisle and exactly what the investigation has obtained.

The likelihood of an FBI response to such demands is questionable since it will take time to sort through the new evidence the Bureau has now. Meanwhile, James Comey, the FBI Director, once hailed by Democrats for his exoneration of her in the FBI’s criminal investigation of Hillary’s complicity in the private email server used while secretary of state, has become the arch enemy of the Clinton inner circle and Democratic lawmakers.

The irony of the situation is reminiscent of the Watergate Scandal in which a few amateur burglars sent by the Nixon administration to bug the DNC, began the slow trail of deceit that directly led to the resignation of Richard Nixon.

Could Huma Abedin’s mistake using her husband’s computer to send emails to Hillary on a device already being investigated by the FBI in a separate investigation be the undoing of Hillary Clinton and her presidential dreams?
