ULFA Continues Terror Strike Targeting Civilians: Assam DGP

Guwahati, July 29: Assam police DGP Jayanta Narayan Choudhury on Monday claimed that, the Paresh Barua led anti-talk faction group of the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) carried out the recent explosions in the state.

The DGP said that, ULFA has continued its terror strikes targeting civilians.

“The outfit group had carried out the explosions in Lakhimpur, Karbi Anglong districts and Guwahati, where two people were killed and 25 others including 22 civilians were injured,” the DGP said.

On the evening of the 28th of July, at least 16 people including three security personnel and three basketball players hailing from West Bengal were injured in a powerful grenade explosion in the busy Paltan Bazar area near Paltan Bazar police station in Guwahati city.

“Based on a preliminary investigation report, we have confirmed that, a militant group of the outfit led by Dristi Rajkhowa, deputy c-in-c of ULFA (I) triggered the explosion at Paltan Bazar,” Jayanta Narayan Choudhury said.

The blast occurred around 7:55 pm at the busy commercial hub of the city, near Paltan Bazar railway station, when security personnel were busy checking vehicles on GS road.

In addition, Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has ordered Assam police and other security agencies to take stern action against militants after the four explosions in a row at three different places in the state in past a week.

Earlier, the Intelligence Bureau (IB) alerted the Assam police and the State Home Department for terror strikes in the state up to August 15.
