Two hardcore cadres of the anti-talk faction group of United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) were captured by security forces in Assam’s Goalpara district along the Assam-Meghalaya border on Saturday, police said.
Acting on a tip-off, a joint team of army and police launched a search operation at Lakhipur area in the district along the Meghalaya border and apprehended the militants.
“We launched the operation in the area and nabbed the rebels who were hiding,” a police official said.
The apprehended militants were identified as Gopesh Hajong and Durlav Hajong.
Security forces recovered five Chinese made hand grenades, one pistol, 20 rounds of live ammunition for an AK-47 rifle in their possession.
Paresh Baruah alias Paresh Asom led ULFA and Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) had set up at least six camps in Garo Hills along the Meghalaya-Bangladesh border.
The outfit groups were involved in extortion and unlawful activities around the border area.
Recently GLNA militants abducted two ginger traders from the Garo hills area.
