Two NDFB Militants Killed in Assam Gun Battle

Two hardcore militants from the anti-talk faction group of National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) were killed in a gun battle with security forces in Assam’s Kokrajhar district on Wednesday morning, police said.

Acting on a tip-off, a joint team of army and police had launched a search operation at Kachugaon area under Gossaigaon police station in the district.

“When the security personnel reached the area, militants started firing on the troops and bullets were exchanged,” a top Kokrajhar district police official said.

Two militants were killed on spot, the official reported.

Security forces recovered two 9 mm pistols, two hand grenades, six rounds of live ammunition from the slain militants.

Top police and army officials had rushed to the area.

The anti-talk faction group of the bodo outfit is active in a few districts of lower Assam and the northern part of the state.

Bus Crash

Meanwhile, two people were killed in a road mishap in Sivasagar district in the early hours of Wednesday.

The accident took place in the Jaji area in the district where a bus carrying individuals going for a picnic party skidded off the road.

Two people were killed at the scene of the crash, and six others were injured.

The victims were identified as Namita Bora Medhi and Pooja Bora.

The injured persons were admitted to the Sivasagar civil hospital.
