Three Militants Killed in Kashmir Gunfight, Bungus Valley

The Indian Army claimed to have killed three militants during a gunfight in Indian administered Kashmir on Thursday.

An army spokesman said soldiers have launched a search operation in the Bungus Valley in North Kashmir (Close of Line of control with Pakistan controlled Kashmir).

While the soldiers were conducting a combing operation, they established contact with a group of militants in the wee hours today, he said.

He said the militants were asked to surrender. However, they turned down the offer and fired automatic weapons towards the search party. Fire was returned by the troops, triggering an encounter. In the ensuing gunfight, three militants were killed.

He said the search operation in the area was ongoing.

The spokesman said three AK rifles, one pistol, one Under Barrel Grenade Launcher (UBGL), Rs 20,000 in Indian currency, two compasses, one Global Positioning System, one radio set, one mobile phone, map sheets and a large quantity of ammunition, including grenades were recovered from the spot.
