Three Jawans Killed, Four Injured in Arunachal Pradesh

Guwahati, April 2 : At least three army jawans were killed and four others injured when suspected Naga militants ambushed an army convoy in Arunachal Pradesh on Thursday morning, officials said.

A defence spokesman said the incident took place in the Topi area near Khonsa in Arunachal Pradesh, near the border with Myanmar.

“The convoy of four vehicles was ambushed by suspected Naga militants at the remote area,” the defence spokesman said.

The convoy was moving from the army base at Dinjan in Upper Assam’s Tinsukia district to Longding in Arunachal Pradesh.

“Suspected militants had opened fire indiscriminately at the convoy in which three jawans killed on the spot and four others were injured. Injured security personnel were rushed to the army base hospital,” the official said.

The army suspected that more than one militant group was involved in the ambush. It was thought the NSCN-K militant group was assisted by the ULFA(I) group.

Both Khaplang and Isak-Muivah factions of National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN) are active in the Changlang, Tirap and Longding districts of Arunachal Pradesh.
