Six more dead bodies were found at the Brahmaputra River near the ferry disaster site on Thursday, taking the death toll to 114.
Local people and rescue team were comprised of BSF water wing, army and police. They have recovered six more bodies from Jogamaya area near the Medartarighat in Dhubri district.
“The death toll is likely to climb as more bodies were recovered from downstream of the Brahmaputra River near the site of ferry tragedy,” an official of Dhubri district administration said.
Meanwhile, a meeting will be held between the BSF, Dhubri district administration and Bangladesh counterparts for the issue of ferry tragedy and discuss measures for search and rescue operationss.
The local people say the ill-fated boat carried over 400 passengers which capsized in the Brahmaputra River as it was caught by a cyclone storm on Monday evening.
Sources sat 380 tickets had been issued to passengers in the ferry and more than 40 other passengers travelled without ticket in the double-decker boat.
“The boat owned by Syed Ali was questioned for the boat has no legal permit to operate,” sources said.
Over 200 people were still missing in the ferry tragedy as rescue team continues the search operation in downstream of the Brahmaputra River.
