Protesting against the alleged failure of the Assam state government to provide proper security to petroleum workers and public property in the state, Assam Petroleum Mazdoor Union (APMU) on Friday threatened to stop loading and unloading of all petroleum products for two days starting May 21.
Addressing a press conference in Guwahati, APMU President Munin Mahanta said the state government totally failed to provide proper security to the petroleum workers and the public properties.
“During the bandhs, protest, several tankers were set ablaze and petroleum workers had been tortured by the agitators. We had already had discussions with the state government on the issue and urged the government to take the inititative and pay compensation to the affected workers, but no steps have been taken so far,” Mahanta said.
Mr. Mahanta stressed they decided to stop loading and unloading of petroleum products for two days.
