Assam police on Sunday apprehended a hardcore cadre of NDFB(S) in Assam’s Chirang district, officials said.
Assam police IGP of BTAD Dr. LR Bisnoi said acting on tip-off, police had launched operation at Duttapur area under Sidli police station in the BTAD district and nabbed the militant named Kesob Basumutary alias Nala Buha.
Security personnel recovered one 303 rifle, one 36HE grenade, one 7.65mm pistol magazine, 70 rounds 303 rifle ammunition from the remote area after revealed by the militant during interrogation.
“Police recovered huge cache of arms and ammunition which were kept buried at the remote area,” Dr. LR Bisnoi said.
Police also seized two mobile handsets in their possession.
Security forces apprehended five militants belonging to NDFB(S) in Kokrajhar district on Sunday.
The outfit group was involved in the massacre in Kokrajhar and Sonitpur district on December 23 left more than 80 Adivasi people dead.
On other hand, Assam police has sounded high alert across the state after several militant groups including ULFA(I), NDFB(S), KLO had called boycott Republic Day.
“Tight security has been beefed up across the state,” Assam police DGP Khagen Sarma said.
