Top NDFB(S) Ultra Killed in Assam Encounter
A top NDFB(S) leader and one of the most wanted extremists in Assam was killed in a gun battle with Assam police in Kokrajhar district on Wednesday evening, police said.
Assam police IGP of BTAD, Dr LR Bisnoi, said the gun battle took place in the Ripu reserve forest area near Nabhinagar under Kachugaon police station in the BTAD district around 9:15 pm on Wednesday.
“Based on intelligence input, Assam police commandos, led by Dr LR Bisnoi and Kokrajhar district SP, launched an operation at the remote reserve forest area when four members of the militant group were trying to flee to West Bengal. When troops reached the area, the militants started firing at security personnel and forced us to exchange bullets in which a top NDFB(S) leader was killed,” the top police official said.
Other militants managed to flee from the gun battle site with the help of darkness.
The deceased militant was identified as Jankla alias Jorneluish Narzary, who is Sergeant major of the outfit group. He was allegedly involved in the killing of 16 year old girl Priya Basumutary in Baska district last year.
Police recovered a 7.65mm pistol with magazine, four rounds of live ammunition, and two hand grenades from the slain militant.
Security forces continued the operation in the remote area to find the militants who escaped.
