A hardcore NDFB(S) militant was killed in an encounter with security forces in Assam’s Kokrajhar district Saturday night.
Police said one of the outfit’s Platoon Commanders was killed during a gun battle.
BTAD IGP DR LR BISNOI said information received from their sources lead to Assam police commandos and CRPF Cobra personnel launching a joint operation in the Ripu Reserve forest in Kokrajhar district on Saturday night.
“A hardcore militant of the outfit was killed during the gun battle,” the top police official said.
The slain militant was identified as Khwmthe alias Dada. Security personnel recovered a 7.65mm pistol, one magazine, four rounds of ammunition, and two 36-HE hand grenades from the dead militant.
More than 13 militants were killed and over 300 cadres and linkmen have been arrested by state security forces in the state.
Security forces have been carrying out intensive operations against NDFB(S) since the perpetrated a massacre in Kokrajhar and Sonitpur districts last year.
Militants were also active in Meghalaya in the early hours of Sunday morning.
In Meghalaya’s North Garo Hills district, five people including a CRPF commando were injured when militants attacked a transport weigh bridge office. The incident took place in the Sarangma area at NH-62 in the hill district.
The militant group were carrying heavy weapons to the area.
First, they lobbed a grenade at the transport weigh bridge, then opened fire.
“CRPF personnel who were deployed for security at the weigh bridge exchanged fire, but the militant group managed to escape from the area with the help of darkness,” the police official said.
The injured persons were admitted to the nearest hospital.
Security forces launched an operation against the militants where the attack took place.
