Srinagar, July 3: Two policemen were killed by militants in Indian administered Kashmir on Tuesday.
A police official said suspected militants fired from point blank range towards Constable Dalbir Singh at Rajpora chowk, some 35 kms south of Srinagar, the summer capital of Indian administered Kashmir, this morning.
“Singh sustained critical bullet injuries and was taken to a local hospital, where from he was shifted to Srinagar hospital, where he succumbed to injuries” he said.
After the militant attack, police and paramilitary personnel laid siege around the area to flush out the militants responsible for the attack. However, no arrests were reported.
Two hours after the shootout, militants fired towards a police constable at Yaripora area of Kulgam district, some 75 kms south of Srinagar.
“Constable Mukhtar Ahmad of Pethbugh, Dialgam was on duty in the market when was fired from close range by militants. He sustained critical injuries and was taken to the hospital, where doctors declared him dead upon arrival,” police sources said.
Police have launched a massive manhunt in both the areas to nab the attackers.
No militant outfit has claimed responsibility for the attacks so far.
