Karbi Anglong Districts Observe Independence Day Amid Strike

Diphu, district headquarter town of Karbi Anglong and the two sub divisional towns have turned into virtual fortress for observation of the 66th Independence Day tomorrow amid continuing 300 hours Karbi Anglong strike forced by KPLT ultras.

District and the sub divisional authority have taken elaborate preparation for observation of official programme tomorrow. In Hamren and Bokajan town all the approach to the parade grounds has been barricaded and the main entrance has been put under electronic surveillance, metal detector has been installed and the whole ground is being scanned with explosive detector and squad of sniffer dog has been pressed into action.

Contingent of Assam Police, CRPF, NCC, Scout and school students will take part in tomorrow’s ceremonial march-past where National tricolor will be unfurled. In Diphu regimental band of the 3rd Jammu and Kashmir Rifles will take part in the march past.

Seven contingents of police, central reserve police force, NCC, women cadets, scout and guide, cultural troops of various communities will match their steps with the band of army and police. Final dress rehearsal of the three official functions took place yesterday. However till filing of the report authorities could not ascertain the name of the VIP who will unfurl national flag at Diphu, Hamren or Bokajan.

In the continuing sporadic incident of violence in eastern part of the strife torn district suspected KLNLF ultras fired on an ambulance (no AS01AE5424) near Tisomgaon around 4.30 PM while returning from Diphu civil hospital. According to information the bullet hit the left rear wheel of the ambulance belonging to Phuloni primary health center; the driver dragged the van for about four kilometers with the flat tire before halting for changing tire. No one was injured in the incident.
