Haqqani Network CFO Killed in Pakistan By US Missile Strike

DERA ISMAIL KHAN: A recent US missile strike in Pakistan’s tribal region killed three Egyptians and one Afghani linked to the Haqqani Network.

“The US attack also killed one Egyptian who played a key role in handling the militant group’s finances,” Pakistani intelligence officials said Sunday.

The three men (Abdullah nickname Nadeem, Muhammad Sadiq and Muhammad Mursaleen) were killed at 4:45PM on Friday when a drone fired missiles at a banjo (cultus car) near Shahzad Kot Miranshah, the main city in North Waziristan, officials said, speaking on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to talk to the media.

A fourth Afghani national was also killed but has not been identified.

The Haqqani Network is an independent insurgent group originating in Afghanistan that is closely allied with the Taliban and has strong affiliations with al-Qaeda. Maulvi Jalaluddin Haqqani along with his son Sirajuddin Haqqani lead the Haqqani network. The group is believed to be based in the Waziristan tribal region although it operates on both sides of the Afghanistan-Pakistan border areas. According to US military commanders it is “the most resilient enemy network” and one of the biggest threats to NATO, United States forces and the Afghan military in the current war in Afghanistan.”
