CRPF Bunker Removed From Kashmir

Srinagar, Apr 2: After considerable decline in militancy related violence in Indian administered Kashmir, paramilitary CRPF removed one of its bunkers in the downtown city in Srinagar on Monday. The bunker was constructed after the outbreak of militancy in 1991.

The locals of Babdemb said the paramilitary personnel removed the security bunker from the Gudoodbagh area of the Srinagar, the summer capital of Indian administered Kashmir.

The paramilitary soldiers were seen dismantling the bunker by using shovels and other equipments.

A top police officer while confirming the removal of the bunker said it was part of the Bunker removal campaign in view of improvement in the ground situation. “The process will continue and a few more bunkers will be removed from the city soon,” he said.

A local, Ghulam Ahmed, said the locals are relieved after the removal of the bunker from the area. “It was a nuisance and a common place for stone pelting,” he said.

People in Kashmir have been demanding removal of bunkers from congested localities. “Things have improved a lot and there is a critical need to remove all the bunkers particularly those located in the residential areas,” they said.
