Cash and Explosives Found in GNLA Leader’s Home in Meghalaya

Meghalaya police on Monday seized cash over Rs 22 lakh, explosives from the residence of a top leader of the Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA), officials said on Tuesday.

Acting on a tip-off, police raided the house of Sohan D Shira, c-in-c of the Garo outfit group and recovered Rs 22,83,500, 25 nos of electric detonator, eight wireless sets, solar plates, solar LED lights, three mobile phones with 16 sim cards.

“The cash amount and explosives were hidden in the house,” a top police official said.

Police also took a statement from Shira’s wife, Sengchi R Marak.

“Marak was actively involved with the GNLA’s activities and collecting extortion money for a long period of time,” police said.

GNLA is active in Garo hills and some parts of the Goalpara district in Assam.

The outfit group set up base camps in Meghalaya-Bangladesh border area.
