Assam Leaders Discuss Development Issues After Years Of Inaction

In the midst of the growing influence of BJP in the two autonomous hill districts of Assam and intensified clashes within the ruling Congress in both state and in Karbi Anglong district, Chief Executive Member of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council Tuliram Ronghang and MP Biren Sing Engti unexpectedly have turned their attention towards schematic development plans.

Yesterday MP Biren Sing Engti on his own initiative reviewed many centrally sponsored schemes being implemented by various departments and other agencies. Presiding at the District Level Vigilance and Monitoring Committee meeting held at the conference hall of District Rural Development Agency office in Diphu, he expressed severe displeasure over the sluggish pace of implementation.

For the most part, he evaluated MGNREGA, IAY, NRLM, PMGSY, NSAP, NRDWP, NBA, IWMP, BRGF and RGGVY projects. Principal Secretary of KAAC Moloy Barua who is also member secretary of the vigilance committee and departmental officers presented details of the physical achievements. The veteran legislator stressed the requirement for speedy completion of schemes being implemented by departments such as PWD, PHE and MPLADF.

Following the example of the MP, Tuliram Ronghang hurriedly sent for the officers of PWD department and instructed them to initiate repair, renovation and construction of all roads of Diphu town Ronghang. During the discourse, he said that surface communication across the district will improve within a few months and ongoing road works in Diphu town will have to be completed by March 2015.

Whatever may be the political objective behind the vigorous inventiveness of the two leaders, it can be expected that after decades of refusal to consider the genuine needs of the people, the leaders are now talking about the issue of development.
