Following a tip-off, a joint team of army and police launched an operation at Amlabazar area in the district under Bodoland Territorial Area Districts (BTAD) on the wee hours of Sunday, where a militant group was hiding.

“When we reached the area the rebels had started targeting the security personnel and forced us to exchange bullets,” a senior official of Assam police said.

Two militants of the Bodo outfit group were killed on the spot during a half hour long gun battle.

Security forces recovered one 9 mm pistol, one hand grenade, several rounds of live ammunition in possession of the slain militants, who identified as Rahul Brahma and Anjalu Brahma.

The outfit group is active in BTAD and several parts of North Assam.
