Army Commander Reviews Operation Preparedness of Soldiers on Kashmir Border

With Indian army anticipating infiltration during the harsh winters from Pakistani controlled Kashmir (PcK), a senior commander of Indian army today visited the Kashmir border to review the operation preparedness of its soldiers to deal with any situation.

Army spokesman said Northern Command Chief Lt Gen KT Parnaik visited the forward areas along the Line of Control (defacto border between India and Pakistan in Kashmir) in North Kashmir to take stock of the Army’s operational preparedness and the situation on the borders.

Sources said the commander was briefed by army officers about the measures taken by the soldiers to prevent infiltration of militants from PcK during the winter months. “They told Parnaik that army men are patrolling the sensitive points on LoC and have installed latest gadgets to keep a check on the movement of infiltrators,” they said.

They said the army commander asked soldiers and officers deployed on LoC to remain extra vigilant to thwart any infiltration attempt from militants from PcK.

It is pertinent to mention here that senior Indian army commander in Kashmir Lt Gen S A Hasnain had recently said that militants may make attempts to sneak into Kashmir during the harsh winter months as well. Earlier, there used to be zero infiltration during the winters as the heavy snowfall used to cut the infiltration points.

“During his visit to LoC, Northern Command Chief Lt Gen K T Parnaik complimented the soldiers and men for their outstanding vigilance and state of preparedness throughout 2011,” an army spokesman said.

He said Parnaik also conveyed his appreciation for the manner in which the soldiers have respected all Human Right norms and ensured full understanding of the sensitivities of the people.
