Diphu March 8: Madan Saikia (70), retired employee of ASEB (Assam State Electricity Board) and resident of Pam Gaon village, Langhing under Dokmoka police station was hacked to death by one Lakhikanta Laskar (45) of the same village in Langhing market around 9.45 AM yesterday.
According to local police, the victim came to the market on a bicycle to use the public bus to take a trip to Diphu. The accused killer was waiting at the entry point of the market with a sharp weapon. Police allege that Lakhikanta Laskar pulled Madan Saikia off the bicycle and beheaded him.
After committing this ghastly slaughter, the accused was seen running aimlessly through the crowded market with the chopped off head of the victim.
Seeing the frightening display of the human head being carried around started people shouting and screaming. A few youths barricaded Lakhikanta Laskar and overpowered him, and later he was handed over to police.
A personal argument between the two men is suspected to be the reason behind the killing.
