Srinagar, June 2: Two udentified militants were killed in an ongoing gunbattle in Indian administered Kashmir on Thursday evening, army said.
A seinro army official, pleading anonymity, said a joint party of army and police laid siege around an under-construction house adjacent to the Law College at Seer, Sopore, some 54 kms North of Srinagar, summer capital of Indian administered Kashmir, this evening after receiving specific information about presence of militants.
“While the search operation was going on, the militants, who were said to be three in number, hiding in the area fired from automatic weapons towards the search party. The fire was returned by the security men and in the ensuing gunfight, which continued till late evening, two militants were killed,” he said.
He said the third militant continued to engage the search party. “The cordon around the area has been tightened and reinforcements were rushed to the area to flush out the holed-up militant. The flush-out operation has been suspended and would be launched in the early hours of Friday,” he said.
