US Lauds Inspectors for ‘Job Well Done’ in Eliminating Syria’s Chemical Weapons

Speedy job for the international inspectors!

As report made headlines that Syria has destroyed its facilities for producing chemical weapons, the United States of America today praised the international chemical weapons inspectors for a job well done in unprecedented speed.

Secretary of State John Kerry said in a written statement that international chemical inspectors have worked with unprecedented speed to accomplish the first milestone in eliminating Syria’s chemical weapons and reducing the possibility that they will ever be used again.

“Now we must make sure the job is finished and that every one of these banned weapons is removed and destroyed.” – Secretary Kerry

The progress must continue

Secretary Kerry also underlines that it must also be crystal clear that eliminating Syria’s chemical weapons is not a substitute for ending the civil war nor does it end the humanitarian catastrophe that continues to unfold.

He says if weapons inspectors can carry out their critical mission, then there is no reason for aid workers to carry out their relevant mission delivering food and medical treatment to Syrians in need.

With regards to total elimination of chemical weapons, Secretary Kerry says that under the U.S.-Russia Framework, Secretary Kerry emphasizes that Syria must provide all UN and OPCW personnel unfettered access to any and all sites in order to fulfill their critical mission of verifying the full extent, and the eventual elimination, of Syria’s chemical weapons program.

He says Syria’s obligations are clear, and it will need to fully comply with the requirements established by UNSCR 2118 and the OPCW Executive Council’s decision.

The Unites States has provided $6 million to the effort of international community to respond to the call to eliminate Syria’s chemical weapons aftermath the deadly incident in August where 1,400 Syrians were reportedly killed due to chemical attack using agent sarin.

Earlier this week, the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons announced that Syria had met its Friday deadline in destroying its facilities for producing chemical weapons.

Reports say Syria has not destroyed its chemical-weapons stockpiles but one of the OPCW’s goals is to see them destroyed in 2014.

Syrian regime guilty of using chemical weapons

The US revealed that through blood and hair samples that have come discovered through an appropriate chain of custody from east Damascus, from first responders, it has tested positive for signatures of sarin.

US believed that the regime ordered this attack in August 21, many know they prepared for it, many know where the rockets came from, many know where they landed.

Reports sat at least 1,400 people have been killed in a nerve gas attack on Syria’s Ghouta region in August 21.
