There has been another deadly earthquake to add to the growing list, this time in Turkey.
A magnitude 5.8 tremor hit southeastern Turkey early this morning, so far killing 51 people and injuring 71. Aftershocks of up to magnitude 5.5 would follow.
The press secretary for the governor of Elazig province, where the quake struck, says the village of Okcular was impacted the heaviest.
The deputy governor of the province says no further bodies should be found in the rubble, but search efforts are ongoing. Many of the cement buildings were not damaged – the weaker structures have made up much of the rubble.
Turkey is no stranger to earthquakes in the past, and neither is the rest of the world it seems. I’m sure this latest one will no doubt get the sensational writers in a frenzy and bring forth some lame stories about how this could be another telltale sign of a forthcoming Biblical prophecy. Lives have been lost and destroyed – let’s not overshadow that with irrelevant things.
