Afghanistan Celebrates Its Independence Day

The citizens of Afghanistan today celebrated their 92 years of independence.

Afghan culture is mostly a nomadic and tribal society with different regions of the country having their own tradition. Its culture reflects the multi-cultural and multi-lingual character of the nation. Most of Afghan people display pride in their culture, nation, ancestry, and above all, their religion and independence, according to Wikipedia.

US Secretary of State, Hillary Rodham Clinton, speaking in Washington, DC, extended the congratulations of President Obama and the people of the United States, to the people of Afghanistan on their National Day.

“This is an opportunity to reflect on your achievements and recommit to a future of greater possibility for your children and grandchildren. The process of transitioning security responsibilities to the Afghan Government will place you, the people of Afghanistan, firmly in charge of your own security and destiny.” -Ms. Clinton

She highlighted that the Afghanistan government leads ongoing peace and reconciliation efforts. She added that all Afghans can look forward to a better future, with their freedom and stability secured by its own citizens.

“Being independent, however, does not mean being alone. Throughout this transition and beyond, the United States will remain committed to Afghanistan and the region.” -Ms. Clinton

Ms. Clinton said the United States will continue to help the Afghan people rebuild after decades of war and assist the Afghan government, security forces, and civil society. She added that the United States will remain a committed partner and friend.

“I am delighted to send best wishes to all Afghans for a safe and happy Independence Day. We look forward to many years of continued friendship and cooperation working toward a more peaceful and prosperous Afghanistan.” -Ms. Clinton
