Iraqi Regime Blocks Access of Food and Medicine in Camp Liberty

Camp Liberty: Maryam Rajavi urges blockade lifted

AFP, Geneva, 14 March 2014 – Maryam Rajavi, President of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), on Friday made a call for the lifting of the medical and food blockade imposed on Camp Liberty near Baghdad where 3,800 Iranian dissidents reside.

“We are asking for the United States and the UN to intervene immediately to lift the medicine and food blockade on the camp,” she said in a forum held at the sidelines of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva.

“War crime”

Jean Ziegler, a Swiss consultant to the Human Rights Council, condemned the international community’s neglect and the policies of the Iranian and Iraqi governments in preventing the delivery of food stuffs for Camp Liberty, where former Ashraf residents are stationed awaiting transfer to third countries.

“There is a war crime since civilians are being starved. These individuals are in danger,” this Swiss expert said.

“This is the international community’s negligence, not inability,” he said while calling for UN observers to station in Camp Liberty and dispatching a few hundred blue helmet forces there.
