The 2010 African Cup Of Nations is due to kick off tonight (7:00PM GMT) as Angola hosts the 27th edition of this biennial tournament.
The Togo team recently pulled out of the competition when their team coach was attacked by gun-toting rebels in the enclave of Cabinda. Three people died and many more were injured in an attack for which Flec (the Front for the Liberation of the Enclave of Cabinda) claimed responsibility.
Despite this horrific event the tournament will go ahead – albeit with a dark cloud hanging over it for its three week duration.
The opening spectacle between Angola and Mail will be played in the 50.000 capacity stadium at Luanda whilst the controversial Cabinda will host the tournament favorites tomorrow; when the mighty Ivory Coast face off against Burkina Faso.
