Laura Bryna and The WE Movement – People Helping People

This week, American country music singer, Laura Bryna helped announce the official launch of the WE Movement and issued a call to action for WE Champions.

Laura Bryna, a singer and talk show host, was the first to speak, talking about how she spoke to her father about giving back to the community. This was a recurring theme, as WE representatives and Don Perata, representing himself, California Lieutenant Governor, Abel Moldonado and California Senate President pro Tempore, Darrell Steinberg and Bryce Benson, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger’s External Affairs Coordinator, spoke about the movement.

The WE Movement is an innovative community-based outreach effort that functions through an online “search and match” software program (HELP4U) linking “those that have” – individuals or companies with goods, products and services they wish to offer to “those who do not.” That is, those who are less fortunate and most fragile among us – as well as to groups or associations in need, who could make good use of the donated goods, products or services.

The WE Movement is nonpartisan, and nonpolitical. The organization is geared up to coordinate resources in the areas of health care, financial services, housing, legal guidance, youth programs and education. WE issued an appeal to community activists to step forward and become WE Champions, people who actively spread the WE word in their respective communities and gather participants, effectively extending the reach of the WE Movement.

Marsha Martin, from Oakland, the inaugural WE Champion, praised the collaboration between private enterprise and government, working together with synergy to improve services for people who need them.

The Ramsell holding corporation, with it’s heart based in healthcare, donated it’s HELP4U software program to manage the interaction between providers and recipients. Eric Flowers, Ramsell President and CEO, spoke about his connection to giving back to the local community. The business was started by Flowers’ father in 1964 and his grandmother said to him then, “Always give back to your community, particularly the community that gives you your livelihood.”
