Classic Abbott and Costello ‘Who’s On First’ Revived in Sutter Street

I just couldn’t believe it!

There they were, Bud Abbott and Lou Costello, kibitzing about a baseball team, where the players have strangely familiar, but completely unusual names.

Standing in Sutter Street, a crowd soon gathered, laughing at the interchange between the two of them. The Folsom Thursday Night Marketplace had never before seen such amazing characters!

I followed them up the street and they walked into the Stage Nine Theatre and they started again and this time, and this time I was able to catch their antics on video.

Who’s on first, What’s on Second, I Don’t Know’s on third

Who’s on first base?

Yes, that’s right.

I mean the guy’s name.

Who.

The guy playing first base.

Who.

The first baseman!

Well who’s on first Lou!

And so it went on. It was quite a spectacle. Thanks to Jeff Sutherland and D. W. Landingham, Bud Abbott and Lou Costello came back to life, accompanied by their friend, Everett Blix from Media Casting and Production.

The Thursday Night Marketplace in Folsom has a different theme each week, setting the hurdle high for future events. Each week, a different band as well as a different mix of vendors and entertainment.

Always something new that makes it hard to say you went once and you’ve seen it all before. The Folsom Historic District Association has worked hard this year, to make each event new, different and exciting. The Event Coordinator Jim Crosthwaite has pulled more than a rabbit out of his hat; his rabbit has a different hat, coat, shoes and voice each time he appears.

This week Iron Chef will be cranking up their grills for the Iron Chef BBQ Competition.

Registration forms can be obtained at www.folsomtnm.com. Cost per team is $25. The competition is loosely based on the Iron Chef competition featured on the Food Network. Each team will have one hour to utilize their barbeque to prepare an appetizer, main course and dessert, all with a “secret” ingredient which they will be informed about the night before. In addition, each team will be required to prepare a drink that also features the secret ingredient.

Teams are required to be setup by 5:30 p.m. in the Powerhouse Pub Parking Lot and the competition takes place from 6:15-7:15 p.m.
