Lies Unraveled Further During Jodi Arias’ Death Penalty Trial

Now 32-year-old Jodi Arias sat at the defense table beginning this week in her trial listening to her consistent lies continue to be displayed and unraveled during her death penalty trial. Fighting for her life after murdering her ex-boyfriend Travis Alexander in 2008, Arias watched as interrogation and interview tapes, both audio and visual showed her defiantly disagreeing with the police officers who were attempting to get her to tell the truth about what happened to Travis Alexander.

Her plan began when she staged a burglary at her grandparent’s home where she lived in order to obtain one of the weapons, a .25-caliber gun that was soon after used to murder her Travis Alexander. When questioned about the event, in addition to lying about ever holding a gun, Arias went as far as to say that she didn’t even know weapons were in her Grandfather’s home.

The burglary was, according to officers who responded to the burglary call obviously staged. Not only was change still in plain view in the area that as allegedly burglarized but many drawers were opened but left untouched. Arias was soon a person of interest even before the murder when she made strange comments such as the fact that she hid her laptop just before the alleged crime. It was also suspicious that only one weapon from many that were available was stolen in the theft.

Another consistent star to the case was also part of today’s unraveling: photos that were both deliberately and accidentally taken by the now famous digital camera were displayed and discussed. Hiding her head from the jury in tears, Arias could be seen peaking to see the pictorial evidence of her crime.

Returning to the interrogation, Arias was recorded denying both that she had taken the photos as well as that they were even ones of her. Phrases such as, “Are you sure it’s me? Because I was not there,” were just one of many lies played for the Arizona jury today. She even continually denied the crime as a whole stating, “If I hurt Travis I would beg for the death penalty.” Statements she may actually see come true.

When discussing the death, Arias was heard talking about finding out as a confusing time that was upsetting because, as she stated, she wished she could have been there to help him. Arias could be heard almost choking back tears when she recalled hearing he had “been found.”

Arias is charged with first degree murder for stabbing her ex-boyfriend 27 times, slashing his throat and shooting him in the face then leaving his lifeless body in his bathroom shower stall. She first declared that she had no knowledge of the crime, then stated that intruders murdered him before finally admitting to the crime.
