Indian Army and Police have stumbled with an unknown outfit
In a joint operation by Indian Army and police force of Chokihola police station, a cadre of lesser known Rengma Naga outfit ‘Rengma Naga Hills Protection Force’ has been gunned down at village Zongfa situated in the north-western part of Karbi Anglong today at around 5:40 AM.
The security force involved in the counterinsurgency operation has identified the saline person as Takan Rengma aged around 22 years of the same village where the incident took place.
According to information received, the force involved in C I operation raided a hideout of believing it to be a Karbi ultra organisation’s hideaway but later recognized that they have stumbled with an unknown outfit.
“The dead cadre does not belong to any Karbi outfit that much I am sure, I shall be in a position to revel the facts once the identification process is done,” BB Chetri Superintendent of Police Karbi Anglong told this correspondent over phone.
Large quantity of arms and ammunition has been recovered by the raiding force from the place of encounter after a brief but fierce gunfight which lasted for about half an hour. They recovered one 9mm pistol, one A K 47, two hand grenade and huge quantity of assorted ammunition has been recovered; live ammunition includes 112 rounds of 303 bolt action rifle, 61 rounds of self loading rifle, 59 rounds of A K 56 rifle and 14 rounds of 9mm weapon. A solar operated set for charging communication device has also been recovered.
Police has not come out with any clear account regarding the persistence of the ‘Rengma Naga Hills Protection Force’.
“Whatever preliminary appraisal regarding the outfit has been made from the documents found from the possession of the alleged ultra suggests that this outfit was constituted to protect Rangma Naga dominated localities from social and economic threat,” said a police officer on condition of anonymity.
