Village Head, Soldiers Hurt in Firing Incidents in Kashmir

Srinagar, Nov 25: A village head, an Indian soldiers and a civilian were injured in two separate firing incidents in Indian administered Kashmir on Friday.

A police officer Irshad Ahmad said the ruling party (National Conference) sarpanch (village head) Abdul Salam Mir was shot from a pistol by unknown attackers near the bus stand Tral in south Kashmir, some 35 kms south of Srinagar, the summer capital of Indian administered Kashmir this afternoon. “He was hit by a bullet in the hand and sustained a minor injury. He was taken to the hospital, where doctors termed his condition as stable,” he said.

The incident created panic with people running helter skelter. Immediately after the incident, police and army men laid siege around the area and launched a manhunt to nab the attackers. However, no arrests took place.

Meanwhile, an Indian army soldier and a civilian were injured yesterday evening when some unknown persons fired on them in North Kashmir.

A police officer Bashir Ahmad said some unknown persons fired towards an army soldier Riyaz Ahmad at Naidkhai, some 34 kms Noth of Srinagar last evening and injured him. “A civilian accompanying him was also injured in the firing incident,” he said.

He said both were rushed to a local hospital, where from they were referred to SKIMS, Srinagar for specialized treatment. “They are out of danger,” he said.

No militant outfit has claimed responsibility of the two separate attacks.
