UPA Chairman Sonia to Visit Assam on Aug 13

UPA chairman Sonia Gandhi will visit to Assam on August 13, officials said.

A top official source of Assam Pradesh Committee said UPA chairman Sonia Gandhi and Union Home minister Sushil Kumar Shindhe will visit the strife torn BTAD on August 13.

“Along with Union Home minister Sonia Gandhi will arrive at Gopinath Bordoiloi International airport. Borjhar and will fly to BTAD by helicopter,” sources said.

Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and other top officials of Assam Pradesh Congress Committee will also visit the BTAD area on the same day.

At least 77 people were killed and 50 others including 14 security personnel were injured during the ethnic clashes in BTAD in last 20 days.

Meanwhile Assam CM on Saturday said around 1,60,000 people had already left the relief camps.

“The overall situation is now under controll. 101 relief camps are already closed,” Assam CM said.

Addressing a press conference held in Guwahati, Gogoi said 99 police pickets were established in various vulnerable areas in BTAD.
