Two ULFA Cadres Killed in Encounter in Assam-Meghalaya Border

Two hardcore cadres of anti-talk faction group of United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) were killed in an encounter with security forces in Assam’s Goalpara district along with Assam-Meghalaya border on Sunday night, police said on Monday.

Acting on a tip-off, a joint team of Guwahati city police, Goalpara police and army launched a search operation at Ganeshghuli area under Dhupdhora police station in the district on Sunday night.

“We were informed that a militant group was hiding at the remote area. When we reached the spot, the militant group fired on us and bullets were exchanged,” Ranjan Bhuyan, Guwahati city police SP said.

Two hardcore cadres were died on spot, police said.

The militants were identified as Ratul Rabha alias Ratul Asom and Raghu Rai.

Security forces have recovered one AK-56 rifle with magazine, one 9 mm pistol, one point 32 pistol, two hand grenades, 40 rounds of live ammunitions, one wireless set from the gun battle place.

Meanwhile, police claimed that two injured militants have managed to flee from the encounter spot.

Security is reinforced across the state ahead of Independence day.
