Two NFFB(S) Militants Killed, Abducted Trader Rescued
Two hardcore National Democratic Front of Bodoland (Sangbijit) militants were killed in a gun battle with security forces in Assam’s Chirang district along the Bhutan border on Sunday, police said.
Security forces rescued a trader who had been abducted by the militants.
Following a tip-off, a joint army and police team launched an operation in the Chirang reserve forest area along the Bhutan border where the militant group was reported to be hiding.
“When the troops reached the remote area, the militants started firing and bullets were exchanged in which two militants killed,” Assam police IGP Dr LR Bisnoi said.
Security forces released the name of the abducted trader, Sushil Deb, who was unharmed in the operation.
The slain militants have not yet been identified.
The Security forces recovered one M-16 rifle, one AK series rifle, one insas rifle, two pistols, several rounds of live ammunition in from the slain militants.
On Sunday, a week ago, NFFB(S) militants triggered an explosion in the Chapaguri area in Chirang district.
Also on Sunday, an Assam police Special Operations Unit (SoU) recovered 10 IED’s from lower Assam’s Baska district which were stored by Jamat-ul-Mujahideen preparing for a major explosion in the state, police said.
Assam police on Saturday said that, a combing operation will be launched by the specially trained commandos of army, CRPF, BSF, SSB and Assam police against NDFB militants in the bordering areas of Bhutan.
