Two Hardcore ULFA Militants Killed in Assam

Two hardcore militants of the anti-talk faction group of United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) were killed in gun battle with security forces in Assam’s Dibrugarh district on Monday morning, officials said.

Following a tip-off, a joint team of army and police launched a search operation at Bordoloni area under Khowang police station in the upper Assam district on the wee hours of Monday.

“Based on intelligence report, troops launched a search operation in the area, where four militants of the outfit group were hiding,” a top police official said.

During the gun battle, two hardcore militants were killed on the spot and two others managed to flee from the encounter spot.

The slain militants have yet to be identified.

Security forces had recovered one HK-33 rifle, five magazines, two bottle grenades, one 9 mm pistol, several rounds of live ammunition, mobile phone handset in their possession.

Top police and army officials rushed to the area and launched an operation to nab more militants in the area.

A top police official said the slain militants reportedly participated in the 34th rising day celebration of the outfit group on April 7.
