Security forces recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition brought into the area by the slain militants.

The incident took place in the Bolaikhamar area under Lakhipur police station in the west Assam district, where the militants were killed in the encounter.

Acting on a tip-off, police and army 7th Jat Regiments launched a joint operation in the remote bordering area, where the militants were hiding.

“When the troops reached the area, the militants had started firing and forced us to exchange bullets, and the militant duo were killed on the spot,” a top police official said.

Security forces recovered two 7.65mm pistols, nine rounds of live ammunition, three hand grenades in possession of the slain militants, who are yet to be identified.

Top police and army officials rushed to the area and launched the operation against GNLA militants.

GNLA and United Liberation Front of Asom (Independent) militants are active in the bordering areas of the two neighbouring states.
