Four people including three top leaders of the pro-talk faction of the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) were arrested by police in connection with a double murder case in Assam’s capital city of Guwahati on Monday, police said.
According to the police report, a team of Guwahati city police arrested four persons including three ULFA leaders from Helsa in Nalbari District.
The arrested ULFA leaders were identified as Hira Saraniya, Pradip Choudhury and Pankaj Kalita.
Police also arrested Sarfaraj Ali Nawaj, a lawyer connected to the murder case.
“The team led by Hira Saraniya looted cash and ornaments from the house of Rajan Lohia, a businessman of Guwahati on July 30 and kidnapped Suresh Patel, an employee and killed him,” Ananda Prakash Tiwari, Guwahati city SSP said.
“We launched a search operation in the case and arrested the suspects,” the SSP said.
The suspects also confessed that they were responsible for the killing of Binit Jain, the businessman’s accountant.
“There are two suspects still at large, however, we will catch them shortly,” the SSP said.
Meanwhile, four suspects in custody were arrested and are being interrogated at the Panbazar Police Station.
