Students Launch Protest Against KPLT’s Extortion Activities

Thousands of students marched the streets yesterday demanding stern action against Karbi militant outfit ‘ Karbi Peoples Liberation Tiger’ (KPLT).

The militant group reportedly demanded payoff from a cleric of a Christian missionary school at Dokmoka around 100 kilometers from Diphu headquarter of Karbi Anglong district.

Agitated students furnished a letter to Prasanta Buragohain the Deputy Commissioner Karbi Anglong in this respect.

According to police, the outfit served two extortion notices on 7th and 11th of May to Bronson Sangma principal of Church of Christ English School. The militants also made several phone calls to the missionary to clear the payoff or face severe corollary.

The threats have worried the students community of the whole locality.

Yesterday, the ‘Karbi Students Association’ led a mass rally of students demanding justice for the suffered teacher.

Thousands of School students from rural neighbourhoods like Lanflakso, Samelangso, Dentaghat, Bagpani, Bheloghat, Dengaon, Parakhowa, Donghalf, Langhing, Jaipong and Phuloni arrived at Dokmoka police station with their slogans. The group tried to impede the extortion racket run by KPLT and security for Bronson Sangma Principal of Church of Christ English School.

Later while receiving the memorandum from the students, the officer in-charge of Dokmoka police station assured the students that authority will take adequate step to protect the cleric and stop the proliferation of the extortionist.
