Speeding Passenger Train Kills 1, Injures 3 in Assam

Guwahati, April 17: One railway worker was killed and three others were injured, when a speeding passenger train hit them on their working site in Chandrapur area, outskirts of Guwahati on Tuesday.

The incident took place at Thakurbari signal point, some 25 kms from Guwahati around 10:45 am, a speeding passenger train hit four railway gangman, who were working on the two tracks at the area.

“When workers of the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) were working on the railway track, two trains, the Nagaland Express and Kolongpar Express passed simultaneously and Nagaon-bound Kolongpar passenger Express hit them,” NFR Public Relation Officer Jayanta Kumar Sarma said.

One worker died on spot and other three were injured.

The injured persons were admitted to the Maligaon Railway hospital and the condition of two them is stated to be serious.

The deceased person was identified as G Pal, 50 years old.
