Security Personnel Killed in Assam Ambush

A security personnel was killed in an ambush when armed miscreants fired on a patrolling police team in Assam’s Dima Hasao district on Saturday, officials said.

The incident took place at Lunkhuk village near Lower Haflong in the hill district on Saturday morning around 8:20 am.

“An armed miscreant group, hiding in upper hill area fired on a patrolling police team, where a police personnel was injured,” a top police official said.

The police personnel was rushed to Haflong civil hospital but later died. He was identified as Lohit Nath.

Police and army launched a joint operation to apprehend the miscreants.

On the 21st of November, a soldier was killed and six others were injured when an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) exploded and ambush by armed militants at Mahur area in the district.

Meanwhile, a hardcore cadre of Meghalaya rebel group Achik National Volunteer Council (ANVC) was nabbed by security forces from Krishnai area in Goalpara district on Saturday.

Acting on a tip-off, a joint team of Assam police and Meghalaya police also arrested the militant from Krishnai Bazar area under Krishnai police station.

The nabbed militant was identified as Jicostar Momin.
