Road Mishaps Kill 28 People in Assam, Mizoram and Manipur

At least 28 people were killed and 26 others injured in four separate road mishaps in Assam, Mizoram and Manipur on Saturday, officials said.

Five people were killed in a road accident in Assam’s Sonitpur district on the wee hours of Saturday, police said.

Reports say the incident took place at NH-52 near Barangabari area under Gahpur police station in the district when a speedy Indigo car (AS-01-MA-6939) skidded of the road and fell into roadside ditch, in which five youth were killed on the spot.

Meanwhile, one person was killed and six others were injured at Maroi area near Sipajhar in Darrang district on Saturday evening when a passenger bus skidded off the road after its driver lost control on the vehicle.

The deceased person was identified as Pulak Nath.

The injured persons were rushed to local hospital.

In Mizoram, at least 18 people were killed and 17 others injured when a overloaded bus fell into a gorge at Keifang village on Staurday.

In Manipur, four people were killed and three others injured when a car skidded off from the road near Khongsang area in Western Manipur on Saturday morning.

The injured persons were admitted to local hospital.
