Road Accident Kills 12 in Assam

At least 12 people including three women were killed and three others injured in a road crash at NH-37 near Kaziranga in Assam’s Golaghat district, officials said.

According to reports, the accident took place at NH-37 near the Kaziranga Latabari area in Golaghat district in the early hours of Sunday when a speedy vehicle Tata Winger carrying 15 passengers collided with a stranded truck.

At least 12 people were killed and three others were injured in the mishap.

The injured persons were rushed to Jorhat Medical College hospital.

“The passengers came from the ongoing Srimanta Sankardeva Sangha’s 84th session in Dhakuakhana to Ganakpukhuri area near Dergaon,” a top police official said.

The dead were identified as Dibakar Bora, Noni Bora, Prabin Bora, Runu Bora, Rohit Bora, Dharmeswar Bora, Dugdha Dutta, Lalit Das, Surya Saikia, Atul Bora, Pranati Bora and one has yet to be identified.
