Protest Rally Against Mega Dam Project in Arunachal

Public voice raised over the construction of mega dam project in Tawang along the Arunachal-China border.

Thousands of people took part in a protest rally against the construction of proposed mega hydro project in Tawang on April 4.

In the banner of Save Mon Committee (SMC), the protesters expressed the displeasure for the proposed mega dam project.

“The people raised their voice against the construction of hydel project. We have already so many small, mini and micro hydel projects in Tawang. But none of them are functioning well. Now the government decided to construct mega hydro project and upgrade the existing power stations. Which will destroyed the beautiful landscape, flora and fauna and also thousands of people will be effected. We can’t allow to do it and urged to the central and state government to look into the serious matter,” a leader of SMC said on Friday.

On the other hand, the SMC alleged that, a group blocked the road near Kudang to prevent the people for attending in the rally.

“At least 15 monks were injured, in which they were beaten up,” the SMC leader added.

The Arunachal government and the Union government planned to construct more than hundreds hydel project in the hills state, which shared thousands km with China border.
