Srinagar- In a bizarre incident, first of its type in Indian administered Kashmir, a man allegedly axed to death his pregnant wife in the region last night.
A police spokesman said that the youth identified as Javaid Ahmad Naik killed his 22-year-old wife Naseema Begum at his residence at Uri, Baramulla in North Kashmir last night.
“Javaid had hit his wife with axe which caused her death,” he said.
The police has launched a case against the husband of the deceased woman, who fled after the incident.
“A manhunt was launched to track him down,” the police said.
The police spokesman said investigations are going on to ascertain why Javaid took such an extreme step and axed his wife to death.
“The motive of the crime is not known,” he said.
